On reading history

I forbid anyone to read a *little bit* of history, because that turns you into Dinanath Batra.

I forbid anyone to read *a lot of history* because that results in (1) deep confusion, (2) a tolerance for ambiguity that plays havoc with all other fields of life, (if you aren’t intellectually dishonest enough to compartmentalize stuff) and (3) wastage of time.

Seriously, just screw history. Unless you’re a professional historian.

  1. I wholeheartedly agree – had the same realisation when I decided to go through the references for India After Gandhi and cross-check if there were other competing narratives for some stories.
Screw history, then, unless you’re bragging about the football club you worship. đŸ˜€
